Sweet Bells
During my time in Peterborough, I was extremely blessed by the support of you all, each in your own particular ways. My dear friend and colleague, Lucy Bunce offered to come and perform there and miraculously this did come about. Dear wonderful Hattie Webb and Conchaband friends also performed there and the sole couple of hours listening to them each perform saw me through twenty eight and a half months.
Lucy also donated two CDs of her playing to the Peterborough chaplaincy, the conception of one of which I had followed with great excitement before Christmas 2017. It was such an unforgettable joy back then to stand in Lucy’s kitchen and to hear her play just for me what she was going to record. The chaplaincy loaned the CDs to me and I was bowled over and moved to discover that Lucy had dedicated the Christmas one to me.
We were allowed to have CDs but they were not allowed to be sent in by family and friends (only purchased through a particular website) so these CDs were the only ones which I had to listen to! To buy a CD cost more money than I had in a week there. Needless to say, year round I listened to Lucy singing and playing her Christmas songs and they were a companion to many solitary hours.
Since the making of those CDs, Lucy has written and arranged many solo harp pieces and a couple of months ago, she asked whether I might record them for her to hear. Amongst them in this new solo version was Sweet Bells, one of my tuneful companions of that long time. Lucy came to my house and recorded me playing this and the other solos and I asked her permission to use the recording of Sweet Bells for a surprise I wanted to give.
So here in hommage and thanks to Lucy and in order to share her lovely creativity and generosity with you all is this delightful ear worm.
