Job Description

We have an exciting new opportunity for a part-time Psychiatrist in our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) located in Tarrytown, NY.

Part-time position 14 hours per week minimally.

Base Hourly Rate Range is $150.00 to $180.00 per hour.

SUMMARY of DUTIES
The ACT team provides non-traditional community-based mental health treatment to promote the recovery and community integration of 68 adults with serious mental illnesses and co-occurring substance use disorders to reduce the use of ERs and inpatient hospital stays. As a multidisciplinary team member, the Psychiatrist, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, and the team leader have overall clinical responsibility for monitoring client treatment and staff delivery of clinical services. The Psychiatrist provides psychiatric and medical assessment and treatment; clinical supervision, education, and training of the team; and development, maintenance, and management of medication and psychiatric and medical treatment policies and procedures. The Psychiatrist will support recovery by providing services that reflect our deeply held values, including recognizing individual rights of self-determination, choice, shared decision-making, and collaboration. When possible, Psychiatrists will utilize evidence-based practices, always embracing a trauma-informed and person-centered approach.

SPECIFIC DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
1. The Psychiatrist, in conjunction with the team leader and nursing staff, has overall clinical responsibility for monitoring recipient treatment and staff delivery of clinical services. The Psychiatrist provides psychiatric and medical assessment and treatment; clinical supervision, education, and training of the team; and development, maintenance, and management of medication administration and psychiatric and medical treatment and procedures.
2. The Psychiatrist provides psychiatric and medical assessment and treatment; education and training of the team; and development, maintenance, and supervision of medication administration and psychiatric and medical treatment and procedures. The Psychiatrist conducts psychiatric assessments, including psychiatric history, course of illness, response to treatment, mental status examination, and DSM-5 diagnoses, and presents assessment results at daily team meetings and treatment planning meetings.
3. Collaborates with the registered nurse to assess the client's physical health, make appropriate referrals to community physicians for further assessment and treatment, and coordinate medical treatments with psychiatric treatment. The Psychiatrist may also fulfill the duties of a registered nurse when not fulfilling the requirement for psychiatry.
4. Prescribe psychotropic medications, conduct regular assessments of therapeutic responses and side effects, and educate clients regarding psychotropic drugs.
5. Perform individual, group, and supportive family therapy as needed.
6. Provide on-site crisis assessment and management of patients during regular work hours, both on-site and over the phone.
7. Be actively involved in the hospitalization of clients, including initiation and facilitation of admission to the hospital; regular communication and consultation with the attending Psychiatrist; frequent visits to clients in the hospital; and, along with other team members, collaboration with the inpatient staff in the planning and implementation of treatment and discharge to the community.
8. Submit written reports, oral testimony, and presentation of opinion in commitment and other legal proceedings and a wide range of treatment, rehabilitative, and support services matters (e.g., Social Security applications, prior authorization of medication, etc.).
9. Document client progress to maintain a permanent record of client activity according to established methods and procedures.
10. Participate in daily morning team meetings and treatment planning review meetings.
11. Follow the established ACT policies & procedures and agency policies and maintain appropriate professional standards.
12. Share client data with clients to help facilitate shared decision-making and keep the client informed of their progress
13. Other related duties.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS
1. Experience understanding family systems based on diversity of cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
2. Experience understanding various evidence-based models and theories about psycho-education, motivational interviewing, severe mental illness, and recovery.
3. Extensive knowledge of Assertive Community Treatment, family community support services such as NAMI, and community resources.
4. Use motivational interviewing, recovery, and trauma-informed approaches when delivering services.
5. Highly organized and self-motivated.
6. Proficient in computers.
7. Familiarity with and ability to use an Electronic Health Record system.

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Must be licensed as a physician by the NYS Education Department and certified by, or be eligible to be approved by, the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
2. Current licensure by the New York State Education Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration is also required.
3. Basic Computer knowledge is required.
4. Must be reliable and able to work independently and understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality.
5. Have and maintain a valid Driver's License with a driving record that is satisfactory to our insurance carrier, and have and maintain a Defensive Driving certification.
6. The Psychiatrist must be cleared NYS Justice Center through fingerprinting for a Criminal History Records search.
7. The Justice Center must clear the Psychiatrist for the Protection of People with Special Needs Staff Exclusion List (SEL) and the New York State Medicaid Exclusion List.
8. The Psychiatrist must be cleared by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) for instances of child abuse and/or neglect.
9. The Psychiatrist must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
