Idyll Farms is a 500+ acre goat farm and creamery located in Northport, Michigan, a small town perched on the edge of Lake Michigan on the beautiful Leelanau Peninsula. Our Certified Humane® Alpine goats are pasture-fed using regenerative, rotational grazing practices, leaving the earth more viable and sequestering carbon. Idyll Farms is looking to hire a full-time Creamery Assistant immediately. While previous creamery operations experience is not required, commercial food production experience is a plus. The ideal candidate for this position must be highly detail oriented and is eager to learn or expand on the processes involved in artisan cheese making. Candidates must have a strong work ethic, be able to follow written and verbal instructions, work independently and collaboratively, willing to take on new tasks.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. Position will require employee to stand for long periods of time, engage in physically rigorous activity, and lift up to 55 lbs. repeatedly. This position involves the handling of various cleaning chemicals on a regular basis. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Key Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the cheese production process, such as ladling, salting, flipping, painting and weighing of cheeses.
- Package, label, and deliver artisan cheese to wholesale and distributor facilities.
- Thoroughly clean and sanitize the creamery to ensure all food safety standards are followed.This includes the cleaning of all surfaces, vats, molds, and utensils used in the cheesemaking and packaging process.
- Assist with the preparation of tours and farmer’s markets.
Perform data entry and maintain logs as required.
Qualifications:
- 0-2 years of food industry
- Detail oriented
- Able to follow written and verbal instruction.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Valid driver's license required
