Junior Fabricator
We are seeking a Junior Fabricator to join BIG NYC's growing model making and fabrication team. You will work alongside our project design teams to build models and demonstrate fabrication techniques to promote a positive culture of model making. As part of the fabrication team, you will also help maintain and improve our production facilities. The ideal candidate studied architecture but has decided that fabrication within the realm of architecture interests them most.
Qualifications:
- Background in architecture is preferred
- Proficiency in Rhino, specifically in modelling for physical output; knowledge of Grasshopper, a plus
- Experience in preparing files for laser cutting, 3d printing, and CNC milling
- Proficiency in operating workshop machinery including but not limited to table saws, band saws, drill presses, power sanders, spray guns, laser cutters, 3d printers, and CNC mills
- Ability to plan and build a variety of architecture models (topographic, study, presentation, etc.) in different materials such as acrylic, foam, wood, paper, and metal
- Dexterity in hand cutting and the assembly of intricate or delicate assemblies
- High attention to detail and an uncompromising commitment to quality
- Strong organizational skills, the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and manage one’s own time
- An interest in exploring new methods of making and physical representation
- Additionally, any/all of the following, a plus:
- Experience in fine woodworking
- Experience in casting resin, plaster/concrete, metal
- Experience in vacuum forming
- Knowledge of joinery, adhesives, paints, finishes, building materials, and fasteners
- Knowledge of lighting and electronics (basic circuit design)
- Knowledge of robotics and programming
Compensation for this role is based on relevant experience, but in the range of $61,500 - $63,500.
