Job qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with 3+yrs relevant experience or 5+ years of equivalent prior experience without a bachelor’s degree.
- 2 + years prior vivarium and/or laboratory experience with demonstrated proficiency performing rodent husbandry and procedures
- Ability to perform cell culture, ELISA and other laboratory techniques
- Positive attitude and ability to adapt to changes
- Self-directed and highly organized, with ability to work within a team
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills
- Well-developed multi-tasking skills
- Ability and interest in working with rodent animal models in a research setting
- AALAS certification at the ALAT level or higher is preferred
In this role you will:
- Work as an integral member of a dynamic team by assuming responsibility for the timely and accurate execution of multiple processes within a rodent vivarium and associated laboratory
- Routinely lead scheduling, resourcing, and execution of the following procedures:
- Dosing, blood and tissue sampling, post-mortem tissue harvest
- Monitoring rodent health, performing animal husbandry tasks, and contributing to colony management
- Laboratory related tasks including making and maintaining reagents and solutions, tissue culture activities, performing ELISAs and producing packaged reagents
- Be proficient in performing and training more technical in vivo procedures including the following: Surgeries, Cell transplants and Liver perfusions
- Providing guidance, direction, training and mentorship to less experienced team members on a regular basis
- Identify departmental needs and communicate them to your supervisor
- Assist in long-term planning and troubleshooting activities
- Work extensively in a pathogen free mouse vivarium at animal biosafety levels 1 and 2
- Ensure data accuracy and integrity within a database
- Maintain material supplies and assist in cleaning inside the vivarium
- Strictly adhere to all animal use and oversight policies
- Work regular hours with some weekend and holiday work

- Carry out tasks in accordance with the governing document (e.g. SOP, batch record, etc)
Work Environment:
- Must be able to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for long periods
- Able to bend, kneel, and stand for prolonged periods of time
- Must be able to perform in an environment with exposure to rodents, animal dander, animal byproducts, and bedding materials
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks that require extensive use of hands and wrists
- Ability to lift at least 40lbs
- Must be vaccinated against Hepatitis B virus with protective titer or willing to become vaccinated
Laboratory Equipment: autoclave, centrifuges, and other common laboratory equipment
