MERCI is a private, nonprofit agency providing training to adults challenged by severe developmental disabilities. MERCI offers a community-based functional curriculum program. Job description for: DISCOVERY SUPPORT STAFF
Department: Instructional
Wage Category: Nonexempt
Reports to: Discovery Coordinator
Hours per Week: Up to 40 hours or as determined by
clients service hours.
JOB STATEMENT
Will provide support and facilitate opportunities for adults with severe to profound developmental disabilities, as well as, but not limited to, medically fragile conditions and severe behavioral challenges, to access their various community resources. Will provide support and advocacy to access generic services as well as development of resources previously unavailable to them, many of the services are provided in the participants home and staff are required to be able to drive to that home, but staff's cars are not used in program hours. Staff do not transport clients in their personal cars.
JOB DUTIES
1. Will assist in ensuring participant's safety, dignity, and well being as well as providing consumers with any required help in fulfilling their personal and private needs.
2. Will foster positive relationship with MERCI Board of Directors. MERCI staff, participants, participant’s families and/or care providers, outside persons and/or agencies such as representatives from regional centers, licensing, local governments and the community at large.
3. Will participate in assessment of participants’ own personal goals for person-centered planning.
4. To support participants’ progress and help with monitoring progress to create a partnership with participant and any additional supports required.
5. To complete all documentation required; to include attendance records, incident reports, allocation records, daily notes and supply requisitions.
6.To attend monthly staff meetings, in-services and trainings, or as required by participant’s needs.
7.To perform other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
1. a. BA degree in Social Services or related field; one-year experience in Human
Services.
b. AA degree in Social Services or related field; at least four years experience in Human Services.
c. High School diploma; at least four years experience in Human Services.
2. Ability to express ideas clearly in both written and oral grammatically correct English
3. Bilingual preferred (Especially Mandarin, Cantonese, and Spanish) to include written and oral communication.
4. Current First Aid/CPR certification.
5. Ability to perform some lifting, up to 50 pounds.
6. Must pass a health screening, including a TB test clearance; and Criminal Record clearance, including fingerprinting.
7. Current California Driver’s License and provide proof of insurance.
Requirement:
