General Purpose

Under general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Batting Cage Attendant will carry out the assigned duties as specified for the batting cages. Provides supervision of the facility as assigned. Must be accountable and flexible. Primarily responsible for serving the needs of the patrons participating in the batting cages. Weekend and evening hours will be scheduled.

The hiring range for this position is $15.68 - $17.56 per hour.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Sells tokens, passes, and misc. point of sale items. Handouts equipment to patrons.
  • Ensures participant experience by enforcing facility program rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Must ensure set up and clean up of equipment at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Ensures facilities and equipment are left in a secure condition by closing and locking all gates, windows, doors, and setting alarms.
  • Assist in maintenance or cleaning of the playing and surrounding area.
  • Provides excellent customer service to the public and staff alike. Responds to participants and general public using courteous and effective communication to provide information and resolve conflicts as necessary.
  • Keeps accurate records and various reports.
  • Participates in the recommendation and evaluation of improvements to the batting cages that will assist to provide maximum enjoyment for all the participants.
  • Answers telephone calls on batting cages, provides general information regarding fees, hours, etc.
  • Assist with ensuring the safety of participants.
  • Performs other routine office functions and special assignments as directed by the Athletic Supervisor.
  • Maintain cleanliness.
  • Provide exceptional customer service in person and on the phone.
  • Assist with all PR department special events as needed.
  • Must comply with City and departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Previous experience with batting cages preferred but not required. Requires high school graduation or equivalent. Must possess current CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within three months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Must be highly motivated, professional and have the capacity take direction successfully.
  • Requires good public relation skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, respond calmly and professionally to stressful or emergency situations.
  • Detail oriented, flexible and well organized.
  • Ability to learn current policies and procedures.
  • Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving of information or assignments from supervisor.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the public and pass along general information.
  • Ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract totals; to multiply and divide.
  • Minimal error tolerance when handling cash transactions
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to carry out assigned tasks proficiently. Good conflict resolution skills.
  • Must be willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to substitute for other team members when necessary and work special events.
  • Experience in telephone courtesy
  • Prior customer service experience preferred.
  • Cash handling experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with various age groups

Equipment Used, Work Environment and Physical Activities

  • Office equipment: Daily use of telephone, calculator, copier, fax and printer
  • Computer equipment: Daily use of a personal computer, Microsoft Word and Excel, ActiveNet software
  • Other equipment: Sports equipment; Computers; Television; Gaming stations; First aid supplies; Camera; City Vehicles
  • Language skills: Reads and interprets documents, instructions, and manuals; in written material, uses proper spelling, grammar and style; presents information and responds to questions individually and in small groups
  • Mathematical skills: Basic mathematical skills to perform moderately complex calculations including percentages and decimals
  • Reasoning ability: Interprets instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule format; solves practical problems with little standardization and a variety of concrete variables
  • Physical activities: May need to provide support of partial body weight for program participants needing assistance; physical coordination for demonstration of activities; bending, stooping, squatting, walking standing throughout shift
  • Lifting: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Vision and hearing: Ability to read a variety of documents and reports such as budget reports, certifications, complaint/compliment forms, various invoices/packing slips, job lists, refund requests, telephone messages, letters and memoranda; ability to deliver information in a teaching or instruction setting.
  • Exposure to environmental conditions: Works in various recreational settings where exposure to any of the following may be possible:
    • Noise – sufficient noise to cause distraction or possible hearing loss
    • Atmospheric conditions – conditions that affect the skin or respiratory system
    • Potential exposure to hot and humid work environment

Recreation Center Membership: Employees are eligible for a membership to the Commerce City Recreation Center for $5.00 per year.
